Thumbs up to the King of African Bloggers:Benin Mwangi

Benin Mwangi. (picture: http://africareadyfor business.blogspot.com)

I dedicate this post to someone I very highly respect and consider King of African Bloggers, given his influence on the African continent's blogging scene. At first he created "The Benin Epilogue Part I: Africa-Ready for Business" A business blogspot that has been enjoying very high hits compared to any other. If you read posts on this blog you will realize that we have individuals with genuine interest of improving the African image to the external world. The posts give a true down to earth and well thought out picture of this wonderful continent.

He took it further and created a much more customized blog to drive the point home that 'Africa is ready for business; in fact it has been for many, many centuries now. But while the emerging markets outside of Africa are generating tons business investment buzz, Africa has received little attention and has still boasted some of the highest returns imaginable. Come journey.....'
True to his words, Benin Mwangi has spearheaded and collaborated projects with other bloggers in his quest to bring business back to Africa. He will move the strongest of hearts to join him with action not just words. I am not blowing any trumpets Benin Mwangi and I welcome you to experience The King of African Bloggers by reading his posts on HERE and HERE

I am truly inspired by his dedication to Africa.
Keep it up, A journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step.

The cry of a 13 year old Kenyan Boy to his Government.

On 14th June 2007 East African governments announced their 2007/8 budget expenditure programmes. In Kenya a young boy, Trevor Kibet had his version of the budget and this is what he had to say to the Kenyan Government.

"I have been watching the economy grow from 0.3% to 6%. But sometimes I ask myself why Kenya can’t be like Singapore or South Africa. I went for Young People Conference in South Africa in February and I was amazed by the infrastructure. Is Kenya ever going to build such roads? Kenya definitely has the potential to become a world class economy. I watch CNBC (Cable Network Business Channel). When I am of age, I will create a business Channel that will engage politicians to talk about business and economic activities of the people of Kenya. I think it is time that we have professional political leaders. We could make Kenya not only a huge economic country
but also make Kenya a business centre. Kenya will one time be a huge economy and I will support the Government, but I will not just simply talk of how bad or good the Government is, I will take action and build Kenya even in the smallest way possible. I think it is time for me to take action and it is also time for all Kenyans to take actions. I have taken risk to write to you. I believe the biggest risk is not to take risk"

Explosion in Nairobi - Update

It has now been confirmed that only one person died in yesterday's attack that brought Nairobi to a standstill. The Kenyan police have played down this as a 'minor normal criminal act'.
What is more puzzling is that there were literature at the scene that pointed to some rather famous quarters regarding terror. More still a manager with CITI HOPPA, bus company that was almost hit say that he saw some 'Arabic Guy' who apparently died in the blast. We leave it to the police to unearth all the mystery.
What do you think, is this just a 'minor normal criminal act' or real terrorism?

Developing Story: Explosion in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya
Monday June 11 2007

There has been an explosion today in Nairobi in what is suspected to be a suicide bomber attack. Apparently, this was carried out by a man carrying explosives in a bag along the city's Moi Avenue (which is near a very busy commuter bus stop and two major international Hotels - Ambasadeur Hotel and Hilton Hotel Nairobi)
Only one person has been confirmed dead at the moment but sources at the scene say that there may be more than 10 casualties.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the suicide bomber timer settings were wrong and that the bomb exploded prematurely. All possible scenarios based on the location and the timing of the explotion suggest several targets most likely the city's transport vehicles branded CITY HOPPA. The man may have been headed to board one of the buses but did not succeed as the bomb exploded before he reached the target. The area has been sealed off for more investigation.
